Plant Operations

Module 3 focuses on the day-to-day reality of operating a biochar plant, highlighting the systems, routines, and communication required to keep production running safely and efficiently. Through practical examples, you’ll follow the workflow of a typical shift in a continuous reactor facility, learning how operators, supervisors, and maintenance personnel work together through handovers, daily huddles, inspections, and operational logging to maintain control of the process.

This module also introduces the importance of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and disciplined documentation. You’ll learn how structured procedures reduce uncertainty, improve consistency, and strengthen safety culture across the plant. Using real-world examples such as clog clearing, the course demonstrates how clear communication and proper procedures help prevent small issues from escalating into serious accidents.

Finally, the module explores the instrumentation and monitoring systems that operators rely on every day. From thermocouples and pressure sensors to SCADA systems and gas analyzers, you’ll gain an understanding of how process data is collected, interpreted, and used to diagnose operational problems. Together, these lessons provide a strong foundation in professional plant operations, helping operators move beyond routine tasks toward informed, proactive decision-making.
